A Bear’s Birthday

A Bear's Birthday Close View of BearsMy idea for this card started with the two bears from Penny Black Inc.’s Wishes and Hugs stamp set. After stamping the two bears onto a piece of white cardstock it was time to color them in using some Copic markers. These cute little guys would be the main focal point, so once the coloring was done it was time to create their backdrop.

For the background, I chose to use an inlay die cutting technique that would add some sparkle. The first step was to die cut a rectangle using Pretty Pink Posh’s Scallop Frames from a piece of pink cardstock and again from a piece of American Crafts’ gold glitter cardstock. Once everything was die cut, I used the outside piece from the the pink cardstock and the inside piece from the gold glitter cardstock, and adhered them to a pink cardstock base.

Since this was going to be a birthday card, I chose the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Adorable Elephants stamp set by My Favorite Things. After stamping the sentiment with Versamark onto a piece of vellum, I heat embossed it with white embossing powder to give it a little more pop. Along the way I had an idea to add one more piece to the background, so I die cut a tag shape using Neat & Tangled’s Tag die from a festive looking piece of patterned paper that had just the right colors for this card.

The last step was to bring all the remaining pieces together. Placing the tag piece onto the backdrop at an angle, I then used foam tape to adhere the bears as well as the sentiment in order to give them some dimension. The final thing I did was to add some stitch lines along the edge of the pink border using a white gel pen.

I hope you enjoyed today’s feature…happy crafting!
